Horizon does not seem too far away.... :)
This is a place very near to Kolkata. You can reach there by both roads and railway. The place has good number of hotels to accommodate rush as well, but that is the most interesting part of this place, that it is never crowded, not even during the festivals.Tajpur is one beauty. It is a place which can be easily termed as isolated, if you take it in a negative way, but it is actually not. The vast stretch of beach with sea water splashing the beach in right time of ebb will not only recede all your worries but the local enthusiastic people out there will make you fell more at home. Well, as I always say, I am not a tourist, but a traveler who never banks upon how many things I need to see to fulfill my trip; hence, I was contented with this lovely place a lot.
While you will take a ride from the nearest Railway Station, that is, Ramnagar to Tajpur, you will get to see many things. It has 1400 ares of land dedicated to Pisciculture. There are a lot of 'bheris' or fish-ponds in that area and also how saline water ends drastically and the cultivable land starts right after the beach. If you notice closely, you will see that the beach is bigger than both Mandarmani, Sankarpur and Digha. The place is an abode to numerous red crabs as thankfully the beach is still clean. However, to watch red crabs spread all over the beach, you need to wake up early in the morning, as after that they go down inside the beach to hide themselves. We humans are smart to eat everything we come across. To say this, I remember about food. The food you get as staple diet (meal system available) is in your hotel only as all the hotels have their own restaurants. But they charge a bit over compared to the price taken by the locals. Yes, it is evident that there is a bit quality difference. But please don't stay indoors in the evening to eat the snacks provided by your hotel. If you do that, it will be your greatest mistake.. The best part of this beach is the evening and night. There are little shacks all over the beach with very hospitable local people who will pamper you and will always greet you with a smile. You will get beer available all the time with prices thirty to forty more per bottle and for other alcohol you have to order 6-7 hours ago. They will fry fishes for you which are no doubt fresh, although you should check the fish before they fry, they make potato fries alike french fries which they call finger chips over there. All you need to do is grab a beer sit on the chair amidst the vast beach while listening to the quarrel of the waves along with the moon staring at you blatantly and if you have clouds you can see them waving at you. The night view in Tajpur beach has attracted me many times. We went on full moon night by chance, and Oh my, the beauty of a night sky in a full moon night. The wind blowing off your skin, you close your eyes and there you see the vastness of the world with nothing obstructing your view.

| A lazy early morning in Tajpur |
The people over there are not only friendly but they always want you to be safe. I have been out on the beach till 1am and moreover our hotel was four hands away from the beach. but the main point is the place is very safe. I have never felt any kind of threat over there. I found Tajpur more safe than the other beaches in Bengal. We could roam around the beach even at 1am. Actually it is not about the place rather it is about the people going there lies in the responsibility of making it a safer place for women. We had nice evenings sitting on the beach and the breeze blowing us away with beer and fresh pomfret fries to accompany us and with music. If you go along with your friends don't forget to take a guitar and if you go with your partner alone for a weekend gateway, never forget to feel each other more warm amidst moonlit night and starry sky and the huge sea pledging to you to keep going. Bathing in the sea is much more mandatory as the sea beach is clean as much as a swimming pool and you get the best opportunity to sit by the sea and take your pleasure at drinking and eating with waves pampering you. We had our best of time in Tajpur reviving our lost hopes and reflection, when will you have yours?
Tips: Book a hotel prior to visit as there are very few hotels and there is a rush in weekends. Food is a bit expensive, so check your budget. Two person with food and drinks and three meals per day with lodging took us about 5000. It can be lowered if you cut your budget.
Drink for pleasure but never get drunk and go for a swim in the sea. This beach is awesome for a swim but there are so less people that if you cal for help, people won't be able listen to you. So be cautious when you go for a swim. Non-swimmers are advised not to go farther from above knee length water.
carry your id cards, as there are some identity issue problem, you don't want the police to harass you for no reason.
Trains available from morning. Tamralipta Express at 6.30am and other trains following the day. Check with IRCTC. You have to get down at Ramnagar Stations. The hotels give a pick up fro station if asked for.
